This pendant is hand carved from high quality nephrite jade, imported directly from Siberia Russia. It is bound with an adjustable braided polyester cord.
The design is based off the traditional Maori Hei Toke Adze, which is a tool that was used to carve out wood to make boats. It was also worn in this by thr Maori elders, and is believed to hold the power Mana, and symbolizes courage, power and authority.
As a child I was first introduced to jade by a Maori woman who was teaching at my school. She had a beautiful Manaia pendant which started my life long love of jade and green stones. I make these Toki pendants occasionally as a tribute to where my love for jade was started.
